Description
Lil and Frank married young, partly because they shared painful memories and a lifelong lack of wholeness due to the loss of a parent when they were children. Now, as retirees, they consider how to ensure their own children never feel that lack of completeness. This brings Lil to sift through letters, notes, and diaries, perhaps revealing more secrets than Frank wants their children to know. For Frank, this results in visits to his childhood house, driven by a sense that remnants of his own early life might still be there. The house is now owned by Shelley, who has her own reasons for keeping memories of her childhood buried, as not all parents are ones you wish to remember. This book reveals the difficulty of ever really knowing the intentions, dreams, and secrets of parents, and what it means to be a child (of any age) seeking to piece together the world around them.
