In Tsarist Russia, Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman in the village of Anatevka, struggles to support his five unmarried daughters amid growing antisemitism and clashes between traditional values and modern romantic ideals. Seeking guidance from God, Tevye relies on his people's traditions to navigate the precarious balance of his existence, likening it to a fiddler on the roof. As antisemitic sentiment threatens the village, Tevye's encounters with a radical Marxist from Kyiv add complexity to his traditional way of life.
